Crisis Intervention

Crisis Intervention at Victim Outreach Incorporated

At Victim Outreach Incorporated (VOI), we know that the first hours and days after a crime or traumatic event are often the most overwhelming. Our team provides immediate, compassionate support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We work side by side with law enforcement to ensure that no one has to navigate trauma alone.

What Crisis Intervention Means

Crisis intervention is the immediate, short-term assistance provided to victims and their loved ones following a crime, accident, or other traumatic incident. Our goal is to stabilize the situation, reduce emotional distress, and connect victims with ongoing support and resources.

How We Respond

  • On-Scene Support: Advocates respond directly to homes, hospitals, crime scenes, or other locations as requested by law enforcement.
  • Emotional Stabilization: We listen, provide comfort, and help victims feel safe in the immediate aftermath.
  • Safety Planning: Assessing urgent needs and creating safety plans tailored to each situation.
  • Resource Connection: Referrals to counseling, shelters, legal aid, or financial support.
  • Follow-Up Care: Continued support after the initial crisis to ensure victims have the help they need.

Trauma-Informed Approach

All VOI advocates are trained in trauma-informed care, meaning we:

  • Treat everyone with dignity, compassion, and respect.
  • Recognize how trauma impacts thinking, emotions, and behavior.
  • Offer culturally responsive and individualized care.
  • Focus on empowering victims to regain control and build resilience.
