Advocacy
Advocacy Services at Victim Outreach Incorporated
At Victim Outreach Incorporated (VOI), our trained victim advocates provide support to people impacted by crime and trauma. We believe no one should face a crisis alone. Our team works side by side with law enforcement, the courts, and community partners to ensure victims have immediate help, clear information, and ongoing support as they recover and rebuild.
Trauma-Informed Care
Every advocate at VOI is trained in trauma-informed care, which means we:
- Prioritize safety, trust, and choice.
- Listen without judgment and recognize the impact of trauma on every individual.
- Offer culturally responsive services tailored to the needs of each person.
- Focus on empowering victims to regain control and resilience.
Advocacy Services
Our advocates respond 24/7 to calls from our law enforcement partners. Services include:
- Crisis Response: On-scene and follow-up support immediately after a crime or traumatic incident.
- Safety Planning & Emotional Support: Helping victims feel safer and more grounded after trauma.
- Court and Legal Advocacy: Explaining victims’ rights, accompanying them to court, and connecting them to legal resources.
- Practical Assistance: Access to emergency funds, referrals for shelter, counseling, food, or transportation.
- Ongoing Case Support: Checking in regularly and coordinating services to meet evolving needs.
Crime Victim Compensation Assistance (CVC)
Counties in Colorado offer Victim Compensation funds to help cover costs related to crime such as medical bills, counseling, lost wages, funeral expenses, and property damage. Our advocates:
- Explain eligibility and application requirements.
- Help victims complete and submit applications.
- Provide supporting documentation when needed.
- Follow up with victim compensation offices to ensure requests are processed promptly.
Upholding Victims’ Rights
Victims have specific legal rights under Colorado law. Our advocates:
- Explain those rights clearly and simply.
- Work closely with law enforcement, prosecutors, and service agencies to make sure victims’ voices are heard.
- Support victims in writing Impact Statements.
VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday)
VINE is an automated notification system designed to provide victims and their families with timely updates on offender custody status and criminal case information. Our advocates educate victims about this system and help with the registration.
Colorado Address Confidentiality Program (ACP)
VOI assists victims of crime in accessing the Colorado Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) — a free service from the Colorado Secretary of State that helps survivors keep their actual address confidential by providing a legal substitute address for mail and public records.
Our advocates can explain how the program works, help determine eligibility, and assist with the application process.
How to Reach an Advocate
If you or someone you know has been impacted by crime or trauma, VOI advocates are available 24/7 to help.
